My Sakura Taisen group talked about doing the battle uniforms many years ago, but we never got around to it. Admittedly, there wasn’t a lot of enthusiasm because no one was a fan of the white tights the Hanagumi has. Reni and Orihimi didn’t have Hanagumi uniforms originally, so there are scenes and art of them wearing their old Hoshigumi uniforms with the rest of the team. And the Hoshigumi uniforms have black tights! Whew!
It was a lot of work to pattern out the jacket which had a lot of finicky elements, like that star pattern that starts on the sleeves and continues on to the jacket. I also ended up making all my own bias trim to get the color and size that I needed.
I have always loved this uniform so I’m thrilled to have finally made it!
