I wanted to attend a Game of Thrones event put on by the GBACG at the gorgeous Castello di Amorosa. I didn’t have a lot of time to work on a costume so I decided to go for something simple. I really like the designs of the House Tyrell outfits so I decided on a Tyrell handmaiden. I noticed that the handmaidens wear outfits very similar to Margaery so I chose elements I liked from a couple of her outfits to design my own.
This outfit came together pretty quickly (except for when I stopped sewing to start playing Diablo III again). I already had the fabric for the top. It was one of those “bought because I like it but I have no clue what I was going to use it for” pieces, so I was really happy to finally find a use for it. The skirt fabric is silk dupioni that I distressed using an online tutorial. I added detailing on all the seams on the skirt which you can’t really see but it was fun to finally use those fancy stitches all sewing machines come with that never seem to get used. The belt was an unintentional addition because I forgot to add seam allowance when I went from my muslin mockup to the actual fabric. The top ended up being a little too short so I added the belt to hide my mistake. Thankfully it worked out pretty well!
The venue for the event was this amazing castle in Napa that was absolutely perfect for Game of Thrones photos. We had a great time and the weather cooperated and it only drizzled on us a few times. I was kind of cold most of the day though… =D
