This is Silkie, Starfire’s pet mutant worm.
Isn’t he cute?! =D
This was my most relaxing Comic Con ever and I had a blast. Not that performing in the masq isn’t fun in its own way but after doing it 3 years running, we really needed a break. I think I saw more panels this year than in the past 3 years all together.
Thursday
Got into San Diego in the evening and got picked up by my friend Joseph. He had to go back to work (ah the fun life of a game programmer), so he dropped us off at his mansion house. We had no deadlines to cram for, nothing to stress over, or work on… we were so lost! We rattled around the house for a couple hours and then went to bed at 10pm for lack of something better to do.
Friday
We’ll just fast forward through all the boring stuff and get to the highlights of the weekend.
First highlight of the con! We saw Joss Whedon near the Browncoats booth. He had stopped to buy a pretzel so we waylaid him and got a photo. He was so sweet!
Next up: A safety instruction card on what to do if there are Snakes on a Plane!!! Awwww yeah! Samuel L. Jackson is a riot. Apparently he signed up for the movie on the premise alone. No script, no nothing. Awesome. =D
I also went to the Battlestar Galactica Panel and had last season’s finale kinda spoiled for me. ^^; I knew it was going to happen and I’m trying to get those episodes so we can watch them. (We lost our cable right before the season end.) Next season looks good!
Highlight #3 of Friday was hanging out with scruffyrebel as Raven and Starfire! jinyo got lots of pics of us so yay! Most amusing moment would have to be the photographer who ran up to me to tell there was a Raven up ahead. I was actually walking in that direction to meet up with Victoria and I was like: “Um, yeah, thanks. I know.” Apparently he did the same thing to Victoria. We can find each other, thanks dude. @_@
Saturday
I went to the Kazuo Koike panel. I’m currently reading Lone Wolf and Cub which is really good and I like Crying Freeman a lot. It was pretty neat to hear him speak and of course, Jinyo was there in his badass Lone Wolf cosplay so I took a bunch of pics of him with Koike-san.
I went to the Watsuki-san panel as well and then went to meet up with my cousin who was visiting. He was much amused by the sea of geekiness. ^^;
Look what we found in the dealer’s room! It’s the suit they built for the FF XII promotional. Ok, if anyone has any ideas as to how they made this suit, I’m all ears. Judy, Yuriy and I had a long discussion trying to figure it out and we’ve got a couple ideas but we’re not positive. Anyways, we took a lot of photos of it ’cause it’s so purty.
So I wore Starfire costumes all weekend (in case you can’t tell). I also made a Silkie plushie to give to Glen Murakami cause he mentioned last year that he wanted one. I suck at making plushies but thankfully, Silkie is nothing more than a glorified jelly bean with legs. ^^;
I also discovered while hunting for Silkie images, that Starfire has a nightgown that she’s wearing for a whopping 20 seconds in one episode. So the night before we left for comic-con, I made that really fugly nightgown in 3 hours to go with Silkie. =D
I didn’t get to stay to watch Titans in Tokyo though which made me super sad. I had to run to make the masquerade. Now I have to wait a year for it to come out. Aaaargh. *sigh* Oh well. I hope Mr. Murakami liked his present.
For the first time ever, Judy, Aimee and I actually watched the masquerade! Congrats to all the winners! I think my favorite acts were Kent’s Dancing with Stars group and the Nintendon’t group. =D
Sunday
Lots of hanging out ensued! I had so much fun just bumming out and the carpet at the Nintendo booth was quite comfy to sit on.
My one lone picture of hall costuming at SDCC. This guy wins for most creative solution to Sepiroth’s shoulder armor. Points if you can figure out what he used. ^^;
Oh, Victoria and I ran into Tara Strong which was soooo cool! Or rather she came up to compliment Victoria on her awesome costume. ^___^
Judy won a signing from Amano-sensei and she was able to ask a question for me which apparently won big l337 points with him. I wanted to know how he ended up doing work for Takarazuka and he was apparently very floored that she even knew what Takarazuka was. Of course she got big cred for being able to say she saw a live show in Japan this year. Awww yeah. =D
And to round out the comic con report…
I don’t even remember what led up to this. o_O
The End.
