UK photos pt.3 – Versailles (which is not in the UK)

There aren’t a lot of captions on these photos as there isn’t a whole lot to say other then: Versailles is beautiful. Absolutely my favorite part of the whole trip and if I’m ever back in Europe, I’m going to go visit it for 2 days (not just the 1/2 day we got) and I’m gonna figure out how to sneak a costume in!

I was not prepared for how big this place is. It’s bananas. You can rent a golf cart to drive around in. We scoffed at the idea at first but after footing it to all the remote buildings, we see the appeal.

Grand Trianon

Petite Trianon – where Marie Antoinette spent a lot of her later life.

One of the really neat things I learned was that Versailles groundskeepers that have worked a certain number of years there have the option of living on the grounds in the buildings adjacent to the Petite Trianon.

The rustic village that Marie Antoinette had built. It’s so quaint!

Judy looking at a map again… =D

After spending a couple hours wandering the grounds, we had 45 minutes to run through the entirety of the palace itself.

I don’t have many photos because it was just room after room people. I figured a guide book would have nicer photos than I could ever take.

They like gilding in case you can’t tell. As Judy would say: If it wasn’t moving fast enough, it got gilded.

The famous hall of mirrors.

There was another suite in the palace that just got restored but we didn’t have time to see it. The entire palace was gutted during the revolution so they’ve been slowly restoring it. That means every time you go back (I wish!), there’ll be something new to see!

Then it was back to Gare du Nord to go back to London.

Versailles is the only place I have ever spent money to buy a guide book. Tells you how much I loved it huh? <3333
