The second baby quilt this year was for Doris. She had a nautical theme for her nursery with a special request for narwhals. We decided to use the Fish & Bubbles pattern, but we put our own twist on it. Instead of fish, we did sea animal appliqués.
After picking out batiks for the blocks, we spent a bunch of time trying to decide if we wanted fish or animals (or both) for the sea life. We even considered doing all narwhals, but thought that might be a bit much. =D In the end, we decided to go with three different sea animals and lots of pretty bubbles.
I purchased 2 designs from Lovely Stitches Design: the turtle and the jelly fish. We couldn’t find a narwhal appliqué we liked, so I ended up creating one. Not too bad for my first time digitizing an embroidery machine appliqué!
The quilting was a simple wavy line to denote water. We found a super cute narwhal flannel for the backing, and as always, we added a label.
