Victorian Family Photo for Holiday Cards

I’ve been so swamped under holiday sewing last few weeks! I’m finally done so I got some time to post, and I wanted to show our holiday card.

I’m not very good at the holiday greeting card thing. In fact, I have never sent them out before. It always seemed like way too much work and other then sending photos of my cats (and have you ever tried doing a photoshoot with cats?), I couldn’t really think of anything appropriate to put on the card.  The advent of the brood has me re-thinking my stance though, and when I found out Tiny Prints would mail the cards for me, it seemed like I was out excuses for not sending cards this year.

I love seeing themed family photoshoots (no surprise right?), so I wanted us to do one too. I’ve got a whole list of themes I want to do. This year’s theme was a vintage Victorian family photo.

Design Boards

I made some design boards this week! Actually, in my case, they’re more like project boards because I’m using them to keep my projects sorted and stacked.

I’m currently in migratory sewing mode – I have no dedicated sewing space as Marcus has taken over my sewing table with his computer. I suppose the one downside of working from home is that we have to always have access to our computers. Since we converted the study into a temporary bedroom for the Grub, the computers had to be moved out, and my sewing table was the obvious place to move them.

It’s only a temporary move, but in the meantime, my projects have to be cleaned up every night and put away. I’ve just been piling them in stacks on top of the dryer in the laundry room, and it was getting messy in there. I set aside a few nights last week to make myself these design boards to put my projects on.

More Bangle Bags

After my bangle bags were posted to the jade forum by my jade sisters, I got some requests to make more. I had some free time after Halloween, so I whipped up a few. It would have gone fairly quickly except that my maternity leave ended and I went back to work 2 weeks ago. I’ve been completely swamped trying to catch up. I’m actually really enjoying being back at work, but it’s left very little time for sewing, sadly.

Here are photos of the bags I just finished. I used fabric from Slipper Roses by Tanya Whelan.

Here’s bag design #1.

Story Book Baby Quilt

I completely fell in love with Storybook by Kate & Birdie when it was released, and then I came across the adorable Storybook Star Baby Quilt pattern on Moda Bakeshop. Shortly after that, my dear friend Lorelai found out she was pregnant which gave me the perfect excuse to buy the fabric!

(I try not to buy fabric unless I know what I’m going to be using it for. Well, that’s the theory at least… doesn’t always work in practice. No one is surprised by that right? =D )

I made a small alteration to the pattern and bought an extra charm pack so that I could add prairie points around the edge. I like putting “taggies” on baby quilts for baby to play with.

In the future, I will be putting prairie points on the quilt somewhere that is not on the edge ’cause wow, finishing that edge was a pain in the butt. It is also not the prettiest job ever, so hopefully Lorelai won’t look at it too closely.

I had some fun with the quilting using my walking foot. It’s still pretty simple as quilting goes, but I like how it came out.
