Shanghai Day 2 & 3
Day 2
After lunch at Tianzifang, we met up withwho is now working in Shanghai and she took us around.

Seeing George Klooney that large was a bit disturbing.

The People’s Park.

Nanjing Donglu – a popular shopping area.

Pizza Hut is a nice sit-down type restaurant in China!

And apparently the Chinese are very fond of soft serve ice cream because every fast food chain has an outside window just for selling ice cream.

So this saxophone player was quite good. Judy and I just couldn’t get over his aqua blue LAME suit.

The Shanghai Expo mascot. Only slightly better than the Tokyo Tower mascot.

One of the shops we stopped in was selling these hand painted glass bottles. The artists use a tiny bent brush to paint the inside of these bottles. It is obviously a very slow painstaking process and is a dying art form as people no longer have the patience to apprentice for this kind of work.

I can’t even imagine how long this one took. @_@

A bakery we stopped in. The chandelier is made of whisks!

The Bund. These were buildings once owned by foreign countries that had businesses in Shanghai.

Jinmao Tower. Ok it’s one of the big landmarks of Shanghai so I don’t want to be disrespectful but… Judy and I started snickering when we saw it from this side of the river.

Smile!

Day 3
We decided to go to Fuxing Park which is frequented by locals. It was fun to walk around and see what people were doing.

There’s ballroom dancing in the paths.

People karaoke-ing. Rather badly too. ^^;

These people are playing with diablos – a Chinese yo-yo. They’re much better at it than I ever was. =D

We spent some time trying to guess who these guys were supposed to be.

Couple minutes later, we found these signs.

These people had a whole choreographed routine going! It reminded me a bit of Bollywood.

Chinese folk dancing.

Tai-chi.

A guy on an er-hu accompanying a vocalist. They were much better than the karaoke groups. =D

From Fuxing, we tried to walk to the Arts and Crafts Museum. We got a little lost though.
California Pizza Kitchen.

The Boxing Cat Brewery. How awesome is that name?!

Not sure what this was but the dress in the window was pretty awful.

Random laundry hanging out to dry. There was no residential buildings on this side of the road so I have no idea who’s it was.

One of the small residential areas we wandered into trying to find the museum.

Sadly, we did not have time to partake of the Chinese Kung-fu Tea. =D

After a phone call to Aki and a plea for help, we finally found the museum.

I think this is fabric wrapped over wire, kind of like fairy wings, but much more awesome.

A White Snake Doll.

And this is the Beijing Opera version of Green Snake. She always wears blue in the opera.

We decided to check out the upscale Pizza Hut for lunch.

Look at the size of the menu! They had a wine list too.

My lunch from Pizza Hut. It was really good!

Judy and I were sitting outside Aki’s classroom, waiting for her to finish teaching her class and we noticed that the crack in the ceiling looked a lot like the crack in Amelia Pond’s wall. /dork
=DDD

The rest of the day was spent wandering the garment district, picking up custom made clothing we had ordered. I got a new qipao made, Judy got two neato jackets and Marcus got a suit with a mandarin collar. If you are ever in Shanghai, go have clothing made! They’re insanely fast and very affordable.
The evening was spent playing mahjong, during which Judy and I played as a team and lost pretty much every round. I think we need to practice some more before we face off against Marcus’ dad again. =D
And this is a view of Shanghai from the apartment. As you can see, their smog problem is pretty bad.
