I was sorting fabric that got shoved into a bin right before the move, and I found fabric I had bought to make hanfu vests. So I stopped cleaning, and sewed a vest. 🤣

This is my first time making a tanling banbi from scratch. I do wear them a lot tho, cause they’re great for throwing over a basic long sleeve shirt to hanfu bound.

This was a fun, fast sew… except for pattern matching the front. That part kinda sucked and took forever. Now I have a pattern for making these so I will probably be making a lot more. Which means I need to up my pattern matching across seams technique. 😅

And now I’m going back to putting away the rest of the fabric. 🤣

Look at this awesome Appa car we saw at a trunk or treat last night! They had Fire Nation candles that you had to blow out with an air gun (airbending!) for their game. So clever and fun!

We had a great time trick or treating with the Larvae’s cousin, and then we went to check out a trunk or treat which had small petting zoo, so there were surprise alpacas! We love alpacas. 😁

They had a box maze too which was somewhat less fun. Think like Bruce Willis Die Hard experience of crawling thru endless tunnels. 👻 We learned that the Larvae are slightly claustrophobic like me. They came out utterly traumatized and declared they were never doing that again. 😅

Happy Halloween!

Photo from my company holiday party last week. We re-used our Final Fantasy costumes and had a few people recognize us! It’s old school Final Fantasy, so if you recognize us, you might be dating yourself. 🤣

The larvae had full moogle suits I made a few years ago but they obviously outgrew them. I detached the hoods, made them separate pieces, and purchased white dresses. I forgot to take a photo of the wings but there’s a magnetic backplate that tucks into their undershirts, and then the wings have magnets in them as well, so they can be attached without cutting holes in the dresses.

The larvae are going to be Super Mario Toads for Trick or Treating tonight, so I gotta dig out our Mario and Luigi costumes and steam them. 😅

Hope everyone else is having a fun Halloween! (Or at least a sugar filled one?😬)

The day before the Chevalier Ball, we went out to the Seattle Chinese Garden for a hanfu photoshoot. It is a huge aggravation to me that we don’t have a Chinese garden in San Francisco of all places. We have a couple buildings here and there but no dedicated garden. I was so excited to see the one Seattle but sadly it is currently under renovations. 😭 There were some other great locations around it tho so we used those.

I love the lighting on these photos! We have some hilarious behind the scene photos of @nickelpin holding a light behind me, and the rest of us took turns holding down the light stands because it was sooo windy that day.

Thank you @embracethedarkanddreary for the gorgeous photos! And thank you @seattle_cosplay for organizing the shoot!

Some of the fantastic people I hung out with during my weekend in Seattle.

3 & 4: The day before the ball, @seattle_cosplay helped us organize a small hanfu outing with @embracethedarkanddreary and we got some gorgeous photos in the Seattle Chinese Garden.

I had such a good time! It’s not like I was expecting to have a bad time or anything, but it totally exceeded my expectations and I think a huge part of that was the people who shared the weekend with me. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

Very late but finally posting a photo of me in the

Very late but finally posting a photo of me in the frock coat! I made some mistakes with embroidery alignment (especially around the pockets) because this was my first time embroidering directly on the fabric for a court suit. So lessons were learned, but overall, I was happy with the results! I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get to the waistcoat or breeches, so I altered Marcus’ waistcoat to fit me, and bought some modern capris, and hemmed the bottoms to look more period. Yes those pants are full out Lycra. They were very comfy. 🤣

The amazing wig was done by @allfrockedup. Thank you for bailing me out of my inability to do wigs. ❤️ And I finally got to wear the custom shoes made by @agustinartesano! They were soooo comfy! I do need to wear real stockings next time tho; I’m wearing dance tights in the photo. 😅

I had such a fantastic time in Seattle! I spent a couple days hanging out with my amazing roomies: @bobabirb, @nickelpin, @cationdesigns, and unofficial roomie, @criticalseam. And then on Saturday we attended the ball which was a fantastic event. I absolutely loved how there was an educational aspect to the event, and I loved seeing so many POCs there. I was so inspired seeing how people incorporated their cultures into their outfits!

Done! (Except for sewing on buttons.) The collar was a complete train wreck because I forgot to account for the embroidery pulling the fabric smaller. But it’s on and doesn’t look too hideous... 😅
