A warning for all the sewers with pets…

Please please be careful with your needles!

Bobo had surgery yesterday to remove a sewing needle they found in his leg. He started limping on Tuesday and when we really noticed it Wednesday, I thought maybe he had sprained his leg falling off of something. He’s always falling off of stuff. So I made an apppointment as soon as I could and yesterday morning, I took him to the vet.

They couldn’t find anything wrong with his joints or any fractured bones so they did an x-ray… and found a 2 inch long sewing needle in his leg. When the vet left to setup the surgery, I just sat down and cried over Bobo. I’m not so careless as to leave sewing needles lying around but obviously at some point, I had missed one and Bobo probably rolled over onto it and it went straight into his leg.

I was a wreck. I couldn’t believe I had let this happen and that I had let him walk around for 3 days with a needle in his leg. If he had been crying or in obvious pain, I’d have rushed him to the vet right away. That’s why I go to a 24-hour animal hospital! But other than limping a little and growling at us when we tried picking him up, he acted fine. He was still running up and down the stairs, and hopping on and off the couch and tables.

The vet found the needle, although it took some doing and they got it out. The weird thing was that she found no entry wound which means the needle has been in there longer than 3-4 days. Who knows how long it’s been in there before it finally moved to a position that caused obvious pain to Bobo.

I was crying all day and the first thing I did when I got home was put away every needle and pin we have. I’m going to start sweeping the floor with a magnet too to make sure I don’t miss any.

I brought Bobo home last night and Judy kindly skipped her gym workout so one of us would be home at all times to watch him. He’s doing amazingly well. Better than me I think. Animals are very resilient.

I nearly had a heart attack watching him try to escape his cone apparatus. I was so afraid he was going to hurt himself or open his stitches with the amount of squirming he was doing. He’s finally resigned himself to the stupid cone, although he’s still running into things cause it sticks out so far. I think Yoyo is jealous of Bobo’s fashion statement.

We were saying that when Bobo gets better, we should paint his cone red and put fiddly bits on it so it’ll look like he’s cosplaying Catherina from Trinity Blood. ^^

Anyways, all you sewers out there, please please be careful with your pets. I thought we were too… but obviously not enough.
