WonderCon 2011

WonderCon was a fun laid back day for us. We decided that we weren’t interested in hauling our Bioshock costumes up to the city and I stopped working on my fix-its a couple weeks ago. I just had no motivation to finish it. ^^; So we went the comfy route and dug out our Battlestar off-duty uniforms.

As soon as we got in, Cheryll bee-lined for the Iron Throne so we could take photos with it. I have to say: it looks much much cooler in photos than in person. It does look cool in photos though!

We wandered around the dealer’s hall some and then went and sat through a bunch of movie panels.

Cowboys & Aliens: Ok with a title like that, you pretty much have to go see it. Plus it has Harrison Ford! The previews they showed us looked really good and it actually looks like a semi-scary movie. It’s not supposed to be campy despite the title.

Three Musketeers: Paul Anderson is directing… yah… I have to say that I have never seen so many explosions in a musketeer movie before. I’m not quite sure what to think. It looks like it’ll be a fun movie if not necessarily accurate, and maybe worth seeing on the big screen cause of all the action. I’ll go see it if I find myself with a lot of spare time (not likely), otherwise it’s probably a rental for me.

Hannah: Looks interesting. Definitely will rent. I don’t think I’d want to spend the money to see it in the theater though.

Priest: OHMIGOD. I’m so going on opening night! LOL. Karl Urban has nothing to do with it… really. I’m going to see Maggie Q…. and the amazing production design. =D

Steampunk Con 2011

A bunch of us went to the Steampunk Exhibition yesterday. We spent a lot of time wandering around looking at the booths and exhibitions, and we sat in on a panel where Gail Carriger was speaking. Gail Carriger is the author of a really awesome steampunk victorian series that we love. It has werewolves, vampires, and awesome humor on top of steampunk. What’s not to love? If you’re into that kind of thing, check out Soulless which is the first book.

I’m always a little afraid to sit in on panels of authors I like because just because they can write, doesn’t mean they can speak. One of the very first authors I heard in person was Neal Stephenson and I was so disappointed. I’m sorry, but the guy is an awful speaker. I like his books though! (For the most part…)

I had a great time listening to Gail Carriger though! I’m so glad we dragged ourselves up to go see her because she was in the first round of panels that morning, and I had trouble getting myself and Marcus out of bed and out the door. =D The other author on her panel, Cheryl Priest, was also great to listen to and I really want to check out her books now. From what I gather, her books are steampunk in civil war times. Time to hit the library!

After the panel, we went up and fangirl-ed a bit on Ms. Carriger and got a photo with her. (It’s on Judy’s camera though so I gotta go poke Judy for it.) We had lunch, wandered around, and then checked out the Lego Convention which was also in the hotel. So awesome! The 2 cons decided to offer badges to each other’s conventions for $10 so we got to check out the legos and they got to come check out the crazy costumers. =D

Costume cleanout of 2011

So, I’ve been going through this cleaning rampage. I managed to dump over 2 bins of fabric and one box of patterns, and the study actually looks somewhat like a study again and not like the great cosplay landfill of AJ. ^^;

As usual, with the annual cleaning out comes the realization that I really do not have enough space to store all my costumes. >.< So I’m trying to get rid of some costumes… if anyone is interested, please take a look!

Ironettes!

Ohmigod LJ update!

So I’ve been pretty swamped since SDCC. Having 2 clients will do that to you. One of them is from the UK though so I get to listen to cool accents on my conference calls. =D

BTW, I’m totally digging the new Doctor and I adore Amelia Pond. I’m not so keen on the writing for this season but I’m only on episode 4. Maybe it’ll get better…?

Ok back on topic: I am slowly processing my backlog of photos and stuck a few up of my Ironette costume. I didn’t make this costume but I had fun drilling holes in my boots for the lights. If you were ever wondering what was in the base of your gogo boot? Corkboard! Who knew?

And I have kitty photos too!

Atlanta & Dragon*con

I’ve been slammed at work since I got back from Atlanta. I had to work through my vacation too which was kind of annoying. I finally put my foot down when my boss asked me to work on Sunday night of Dragon*con.

I had fun at Dragon*con! Saw and hung out with lots of people, and actually attended programming and watched it on the tv. I also drank a little too much but I suppose that is to be expected.
